Indian e-commerce major Flipkart has appointed an IT industry veteran, Ravi Garikipati, as ‘Entrepreneur in Residence’, the media reported.

In the newly created role, Garikipati will work closely with Flipkart co-founders on new and high-impact business projects, Flipkart said in a release. Garikipati will focus on driving innovative changes for these business projects, which are a mix of new, independent and existing businesses.

However, the first assignment of Garikipati would be to help Flipkart scale up new ads intiative, the release said.

Garikipati has over 25 years experience in building and leading global products and businesses. In his last job, as head of [24]7 Innovation Labs, Garikipati was responsible for overall strategy and development of all products.

Prior to that, he served as senior vice president at Vendio, which scaled to have more than 2.5 million online sellers and was eventually bought by Alibaba.

“This is the first time such a role is being created in the organisation and the possibilities that open up for the future as a result of this are immense. After all, we are all entrepreneurs at heart and we want to actively keep that spirit alive across all businesses and divisions here,” said Flipkart CEO and co-founder Sachin Bansal. (RKS)
