The largest apparel export company in India has managed to secure a giant order of supplying active wear for thousands of athletes participating in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Sources from Gokaldas Exports confirmed Fibre2fashion that shipments are currently in progress and will reach Nike (the buyer) by April so that distribution can start by May.
Nike is one of the main consumers of exports made by Gokaldas accounting for about 10-15 percent of the company's topline.
Moreover, Nike would not only sell these goods directly to the participating teams but will also be looking forward to selling a part of the merchandise through its chain of retail stores present worldwide.
Gokaldas Exports is fully owned company of private equity player Blackstone and the 250,000 units of the order to be supplied will include sports apparels like jumpers, track-suits, vests and jackets.
Gokaldas Exports also supplied about 100,000 units through Nike for the 2006 Soccer World Cup which was hosted by Japan and South Korea.
