TEA welcomes tax refund services extended to exporters

In a Press Release issued (2.4.2008), Shri. A. Sakthivel, President, TEA has welcomed for bringing three more Services used by exporters for refund of Service Tax paid by them.

The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India has issued a Notification No. 17/2008-Service Tax Dated 1st April 2008 informing the extension of exemption to the following three services and the exporters can claim the exemption by filing a claim for refund of Service Tax paid on these services.

1. Services provided by a Custom House Agent (CHA) in relation to export goods exported by the exporter,

2. (i) Services provided in relation to collection of export bills,
(ii) Services provided in relation to export letters of credit such as advising commission, advising amendment, confirmation charges.

3. Services provided by a commission agent, located outside India, and engaged under a contract or agreement or any other document by the exporter in India, to act on behalf of the exporter, to cause sale of goods exported by him.

Shri. A. Sakthivel has sent thanks letters to Shri. P. Chidambaram, Hon'ble Union Finance Minister, Shri. Kamalnath, Hon'ble Commerce Minister and Shri G.K. Pillai, Commerce Secretary, Government of India, New Delhi yesterday (1.4.2008) and he hoped these impetus would help to increase the competitiveness of the exporters.

Shri. A. Sakthivel has requested the Government to give exemption from the payment of remaining Service Taxes and also Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT).
