IAF World Apparel Convention to be held on October 29th - 31st, 2008 in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

By means of the IAF International Designer Award, the International Apparel Federation (IAF) aims to encourage prominent designers to participate in this prestigious contest.

The 2008 IAF International Designer Award will be held on the eve of the 24th IAF World Apparel Convention, in the Gouvernement in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

In 1992, the EU Treaty of Maastricht was signed in this government building. By strengthening the exchange among IAF member associations in 34 countries worldwide, international fashion design is promoted among the most influential decision-makers in the apparel industry.

All IAF member associations are invited to participate in this event, by nominating one designer from their country, who has been in the business for at least 3 years, to take part in the contest.

The collection should be focused on ladies' wear for the period of Summer 2009, with a spotlight on the theme Seizing the Day, Crossing into the Night.

The panel of judges will be made up of a prominent designer, a fashion journalist and a well known manufacturer, representing the United States, Asia and Europe.

The international panel of judges will judge the designs on basis of creativity (40%) and marketability (60%). Awards will be presented in three categories: Most Creative Design, Most Commercial Design and Best way of working with the fabric.

On the evening of the IAF gala dinner, all nominated designers are offered the opportunity of having their creations shown during the catwalk show.
