Winnipeg, Manitoba based clothing company, Yomama Gear Canada, has taken action to protect its trademark and copyrights. The firm, whose owner registered trademarks (United States 1998) for all apparel items, is looking to protect its good name and image - Yo Mama.

"A series of T-shirts and related apparel depicting "Obama fo Yo Mama" have been retailed on line and infringe upon my rights" says company president Richard Abramowicz. "They have profited at my expense without seeking a license to do so."

California based on-line retailers, Cafe Press and Zazzle have been selling a large variety of items and our legal department has forwarded both a demand to cease and desist any and all sales of items in question, and account for all infringing sales to date. "The only Yo Mama Obama will be for -is our Yo Mama."

"We have sole discretion as to how we use our trademark. We had been approached by the MTV based "Yo momma" reality show, starring "That 70's Show" Wilmar Valderama in the past when they were looking to produce clothing. Why should Cafe Press or Zazzle be any different? This kind of profit at a small company's expense can no longer be tolerated."
