Ms Nirmala states, "In the co-operative fold 7657 weavers are producing silk sarees worth Rs55 million per month. In the private Master weavers, 12000 artists are engaged in the production of silk sarees worth Rs100 million every month."
Kancheepuram sarees is one of the unique arts of India and its authenticity should be protected. This cluster is changing, even as the traditional style remains intact. Thus, experts believe, that this is one industry that will not be affected severely by the global financial crunch. Then again, future is uncertain.
