On 5th Feb, nearly 200 workers of Terratex VN 2 Company, a garment manufacturing unit, struck work, protesting against the company's new salary policy that indicates cuts in salary, than that was previously paid.
After the workers came back to work from their week long Tet holidays, the company's management board announced a new salary policy indicating a lower payment for the workers. As a result of which the workers decided to strike against the arbitrary policy.
Terratex VN 2 is one of the two, Korean managed garment plants which out sources garment manufacturing at its plant in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City.
Because of the global economic crisis, many textile and garment companies in Vietnam, especially the foreign invested ones, have been receiving far more lower orders resulting in cuts in production and salary, layoffs and in some cases full closures.
