In 2008, the US–Vietnam bilateral trade touched US $15.28 billion in 2008, growing by 23.6 percent over 2007, of which exports from Vietnam to the US reached $12.61 billion, up 19.6 percent and imports totaled $2.7 billion, up 46.6 percent.
Among all products exported from Vietnam to the US, shipments from the textile and garment sector topped the charts in earning $5.26 billion, a growth of 20 percent y-o-y and accounted for 41.75 percent of total export turnover to the US.
Other key products with a good proportion of shipments from Vietnam to the markets of the US include woodwork worth $1.45 billion, up 18.5 percent and footwear $1.21 billion, up 17.5 percent.
