Accessory industry co-related to well-being of apparel sector

The global slowdown and the recessionary trends accompanying it, has hit the garment manufacturers very hard. After having scored very good growth rates in the last few years, the downtrend is becoming very difficult to fathom for these exporters.

But along with the direct hit on garment exports, one more category which is feeling the heat is the apparel accessories sector, which is directly co-related to the well being of clothing exports. Among accessories are zippers, buttons, labels, etc.

The apparel accessories manufacturers are keeping a keen eye on export trends more so on the future prospects, since a few of them are still receiving reasonable orders, but are worried about the future, which seems bleak.

The biggest positive advantage that the accessory sector holds in Bangladesh is that, they have quick delivery schedules and turnaround times, which makes them the preferred suppliers, over their counterparts in other countries like Hong Kong.

A few of them expect to capitalize on this quick turnaround time and hope to persuade the apparel exporters to take advantage of this fact, rather than importing the same from other countries, who take up to 2-3 months
