The American Apparel & Footwear Association congratulated former Governor Gary Locke on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate to be the next Secretary of Commerce.
"While governor of Washington, Secretary Locke learned how two-way trade helps grow economies," said AAFA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. "During this time of economic challenge, Mr. Locke can bring the kind of leadership we need at the Department of Commerce to generate new opportunities for growth.”
"As Commerce Secretary, Mr. Locke will be charged with the critical task of creating new avenues of possibility for U.S. businesses, manufacturers, and consumers,” Mr. Burke said. “One way to see our economy rebound is to ensure we promote opportunities for bold and robust trade, provide continued support for our domestic producers, and maintain broad access to the global marketplace. I look forward to working together with Secretary Locke to enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. apparel and footwear industry."
