Tirupur to be transformed into textile tourist destination
Apr '09
Tirupur a town in Tamil Nadu is a cluster, very well known for its cotton knit garment and undergarment export and domestic industry. Now the district administration wants to take the industry one notch higher by promoting textile tourism in Tirupur.

The objective behind this novel scheme is to showcase the distinctive textile and apparel products produced here and also draw attention to the various processes adopted across the whole value chain by the entrepreneurs of the region.

Under the scheme, outlets selling textiles and apparels manufactured in Tirupur will be set up alongside the three highways connecting Tirupur, which would help consumers traversing the highways to purchase goods without having to enter the garment town.

Parallel to these outlets, textile and clothing manufacturing units would be set up again alongside the highways to enable the visitors to get a distinctive idea of the processes involved in producing a piece of garment, which they later wear.

Fibre2fashion spoke exclusively to Mr Sakhtivel, President of Tirupur Exporters Association who said that,” Yes, this is welcome step taken by the district administration. We feel it will definitely benefit Tirupur textile sector”.

He proudly added by saying, “As every one is well aware that products from Tirupur are very famous even in international markets, we are ready to extend full cooperation & support for the fulfillment of this project”.

This venture is expected to be a public-private partnership and will be set up in collaboration with textile and apparel bodies of Tirupur.
