Bogus clothing collection warning

Gloucestershire County Council Trading Standards Service has received enquiries from consumers in Longlevens and Kingsholm about leaflets asking for unwanted clothes to be donated.

The flyers state that donations are sent to the third world to help clothe the poor.

Although it is made clear that the collection is being carried out by a company and not a charity, the company name given on the flyers, W&W HELP LIMITED, does not exist.

Eddie Coventry, Head of Trading Standards, commented: "We receive a lot of enquiries about clothing collections and consumers are concerned that there are many collections which look like they are for charity when they are in fact a commercial collection."

"This collection is a concern because the company undertaking it is using a false name. We advise members of the public to contact a genuine charity if they wish the disposal of their clothing to benefit those in need. Genuine charities will have a registered charity number."
