Street chic: new women's line from Shigoto Fashion

Japanese fashion has always been cutting-edge, but Shigoto Fashion brings new meaning to the word with the launch of its women's apparel line. With their men's line currently available, Shigoto has now unveiled its women's line inspired by the legendary Samurai and the uniforms of modern Japanese construction workers. Also new to the collection are t-shirts and additional men's styles continuing to set the precedent in clothing wildly different than anything seen before.

Shigoto Fashion was founded in Tokyo in April 2008 by Jasper Momma, former general manager of Heineken Japan, and Mibu Minami, a well-known Japanese radio personality. Momma and Minami described their inspiration for their collection as the intersection of Japan's past and future. Their mission was to bring Japanese history to the world through fashion.

“It has been really exciting to teach people a little about Japan's history, especially to those who may not have gotten the chance to experience it. We take a lot of pride in the authenticity of our products,” Mibu said.

All Shigoto apparel is hand-woven by Japanese designers and manufactured in Japan in order to provide authentic pieces. Along with being committed to Japan, Shigoto Fashion is also committed to being socially responsible. The majority of their clothing is made from organic materials.

The clothing puts a fashion-forward spin on the silhouettes and styles worn by construction workers in Japan, including tobi pants, which were originally worn by samurai because they allow the wearer speed and dexterity. The line also includes exclusive shoes, t-shirts and accessories.

“Because there are few looks as distinctive as Shigoto in the market, our clothing really makes a direct impact in any crowd,” Mibu said.
