A custom clothing manufacturer's renovation of an existing building in Orwigsburg, and a Westmoreland County solar power manufacturer's purchase and renovation of two buildings were among the projects that received new state investments today totaling $8 million, Governor Edward G. Rendell said.

The low-interest loans, approved by the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, will help to create 438 jobs, leverage more than $32 million in private-sector funding, and advance five projects in Beaver, Northampton, Schuylkill, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

"Pennsylvania is fighting its way through the current economic storm with strategic investments like the ones we are making today lead to new jobs and economic development," said Governor Rendell. "We must keep working to further encourage business investment, growth and job creation by providing companies with necessary investment capital."

The Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority provides capital for infrastructure acquisition, creation and renovation projects, primarily for manufacturers, industrial developers, research and development firms, agricultural processors and employers looking to establish national or regional headquarters in Pennsylvania.

Schuylkill County
H.H. Fessler Knitting Co. Inc., which manufactures custom clothing, will receive a $1.6 million loan to renovate its existing 152,000-square-foot building in Orwigsburg. Founded in 1900, the company's customers include Michael Stars, Nordstrom, and Urban Outfitters. The $5.4 million project, sponsored by the Schuylkill Economic Development Corp., will retain 66 employees and create 20 additional jobs.

The Rendell administration is committed to creating a first-rate public education system, protecting our most vulnerable citizens and continuing economic investment to support our communities and businesses.
