One of the biggest apparel manufacturer cum exporter is all set to wind up operations in the country due to the global recessionary crisis leading to a paucity of orders to keep its garment unit in operation.

The company, Minatex, which has its head office in Hong Kong is located in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and was set up around 20 years back and supplies garments to big retailers in the American continent.

This action of the company will lead to the last of the 300 workers losing their jobs if the company does not receive new orders in the next few fortnights. The company was providing employment to nearly 1,600 workers of which 1,300 have been retrenched last year.

Minatex is a supplier of clothing to well known American brands like GAP, Timberland and Arrow. According to a company official production orders have shifted to China due to the cost competitive pricing quoted by the Chinese garment manufacturers.

The apparel manufacturing company has manufacturing orders for running the unit till June in hand, after which if does not receive any new orders, will be compelled to shut down operations, leaving nearly 300 workers in the lurch.
