According to the latest statistics of China General Administration of Customs, China's textile and apparel exports reached US $13.94 billion in June 2009, up 13.33 percent from the previous month, but down 10.13 percent from the same period last year.

Among them, exports of textiles (including textile yarn, fabrics and apparel) completed $4.91 billion, down 13.06 percent year-on-year; export value of clothing (including clothing and accessories) realized $9.03 billion, down 8.46 percent year-on-year.

From September 2008 - June 2009, cumulative exports of China's textiles and apparel amounted to $139.066 billion, a decline of $4.823 billion, or 3.55 percent.

Among them, cumulative exports of textile were $48.42 billion, down 6.8 percent; cumulative exports of clothing were $90.646 billion, down 1.4 percent.

In May this year, clothing imports of the United States from two major suppliers showed significant changes. Clothing imports from India rose 19.2 percent, representing the first growth in 4 months, mainly due to a 17.8 percent decrease in apparel prices.

In contrast, U.S. imports of Chinese clothing only increased 7.7 percent year-on-year, due to a 1.5 percent rise in apparel price. In recent years, India's apparel prices have been significantly higher than China.

But the spread between the two countries has narrowed since last year, Indian clothing gradually appears to a have advantage in price. From the current trend, the United States is likely to increase its import volume of apparel from India
