Daiei Inc, the supermarket chain has started selling jeans at a price tag of 880 Yen throughout Japan, after its capital alliance partner, Aeon offered jeans at the same price in August.
Daiei says that it has developed the low-priced denim jeans by simplifying specifications and pruning distribution costs and has set a yearly target of 500,000 pairs.
The pricing of jeans from Daiei and Aeon is lower than those offered by Fast Retailing, which has priced its low cost jeans at 990 yen.
Another retailer, Ito-Yokado Co's, price discount store chain, had earlier introduced jeans priced at 980 Yen.
