Since the last few months, the Chinese textile and apparel bandwagon is witnessing positive signs of revival in exports, with each month, posting positive growth rates, when compared with those of its previous month.
The government had announced a few incentives in the first quarter of the current year, which has led to a faster recovery within the sector. But at the same time, it is also battling with another problem in its home ground; labour shortage.
Textile and apparel companies, which are re-starting their capacities, are finding it difficult to recruit talented staff and skilled workers. Nor are the workers who were retrenched earlier months are showing inclinations of joining back.
This paradox is more noticeable in the coastal areas as new huge investments are pouring into the central and western regions, which are also luring workers from other regions, by providing better facilities and wages.
Experts aver that, at a time when order levels are increasing, the shortage of skilled workers could throw a spanner in to all the planning done by the textile and apparel companies to meet their delivery targets on time.
