Bullet-proof vests for security guards of hospital

The Izaak Walton Killam (IWK) Hospital for Children in Halifax has put out a tender for 35 slash-proof and bulletproof vests according to a spokesperson of the hospital, who, however refused to comment further on the decision.
This is the first of its kind outside Alberta province, which has a law which binds hospitals to provide bullet-proof vests to it security guards.
Another spokesperson for IWK hospital giving reasons for buying the vests said that, the vests are meant to protect hospital staff when dealing with patients and their families during tense situations. This decision could also be fallout of a shooting incident which occurred in the hospital parking lot.
