Merchandisers need to keep keen eye on fabric suppliers

Understanding textile industrial culture is very important, for the reason that, this is the only large-scale industry where each order is tailor made.

Vendors should be informed about the requirement along with which enough time should be given to complete the order. Many manufacturers go out of their way and give commitments, which they may not be able to deliver.

In order to ensure timely deliveries, the manufacturer should have a properly functioning and reporting SCM/PPC department. Some technicians have inadequate qualification for the job.

They do not understand the importance of matching colors in properly calibrated light boxes. Such manufacturers should be preferably dropped from the vendor list.

Number of active machines seen in the running (production) condition is an indicator of the efficiency of that department.

Merchandisers involved in the sourcing job sometimes do not recognize these tell-tale signs, which could help avoid any problems in the future.

In such cases, these merchandisers need to be given orientation in the fabric manufacturing process to understand and plan the fabric procurement operation better.
