The value-added textile sector, like clothing and home textiles have expressed concern over the role of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in monitoring cotton yarn exports from the country.
A spokesperson from the ready-made garment industry said that, they were not being involved in the monitoring mechanism to check yarn exports and it was being handled by the TDAP and representatives of the spinning mills, alone.
It may be recalled that the Federal Commerce Ministry had earlier directed TDAP to set up a monitoring cell to be filled up by representatives of the yarn sector and value-added sector, to check unprecedented yarn exports.
But he lamented the fact that, till date the representatives of the value-added sector had not been called for the meetings, nor provided any data related to exports of yarn from the country, which forced them to aver of underhand dealings.
The spokesperson also alleged that, the textile ministry too had succumbed to the pressure from the spinning mills. It said the waiver of duty on imported yarn would not help as the apparel exporters were already entitled to import yarn, without paying duty.
