According to the statistics of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) knitted clothing shipments in the period July-November 2009 stood at US $2.58 billion, which is 5.66 percent less than the same period in the corresponding previous year.
In the same period, exports of woven ready-made garment products totaled to US $2.12 billion, down 7.86 percent from the same months of 2008. Earnings from exports of home-textiles also fell by 18.16 percent during the period.
Experts from the apparel sector, which accounts for more than 65 percent of all exports from the country, aver that, the industry is still in the grip of global economic recession and is yet to achieve positive growth in post-recession era.
