Firstline Manufacturing Corporation is expanding its Dri Sweat line of active wear hair products this spring. Comfortable, stylish, and functional, Dri Sweat is a line designed for men and women who live active lifestyles and especially for African-American casual and serious exercise enthusiasts.

With the arrival of spring's warmer weather, it is the perfect time to begin or spruce up an exercise routine that includes walking, running, stepping (aerobics), using a stair-climbing or elliptical machine, or lifting weights. The key to starting or resuming physical activity after months of winter lethargy is to take it easy and make it as easy as possible to do, recommends the American Heart Association (AHA). Health experts agree that we only need 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a day, three days a week, to reap long-term benefits.

With health concerns such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, exercise is extremely important in the black community. Exercise can help alleviate or control all these health concerns, yet African-Americans have a major obstacle to working out maintaining the style and health of their hair.

"Women have for years had to make a choice between starting a healthy exercise routine or ruining their fresh new hairstyles,” said Joni Odum, Marketing Director of Firstline. “Dri Sweat is an opportunity to have both.” Odum says that items such as Firstline's Dri Sweat Edge Headband allows women to keep their edges in tact as the sweat is absorbed.

A study conducted by the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. and released in November 2007 suggested that 31 percent of the 103 African-American women surveyed admitted that they exercise less because it may affect their hairstyle. All of the women who participated in the study agreed that it is important to exercise in order to lead a healthy life.

For exercisers, the gear they choose to wear during workouts can make a real difference. Firstline's Dri Sweat material transports perspiration away from hair upon contact, while the mesh feature helps keep the head cool during exercise.

Firstline's expanded Dri Sweat line for women includes the following items: Dri Sweat Active Wear Mesh Cap (a bandana that includes a headband to absorb perspiration and mesh material to keep the head cool during light and intense exercise); Dri Sweat Edge (a protector headband that keeps edges in tact by absorbing sweat during physical activity); and Dri Sweat Fit (a style protector cap with a headband feature to absorb sweat, mesh material to keep head cool, and a ponytail outlet).

Firstline's expanded Dri Sweat line for men includes the following items: Dri Sweat Active Wear Mesh Cap (form-fitted, stylish cap that features a headband to absorb perspiration and mesh material to keep head cool); Dri Sweat Xtreme Sports Cap (made entirely of Dri Sweat material for black men with low cut fades); Dri Sweat Pro (a skull cap for men who engage in intense sports activity such as football, basketball, or other strenuous sports); and Dri Sweat Guard (a mesh bandana for men with natural styles like braids, twists, and locks).
