Vietnam General Department of Statistics reported that apparel accessories exports turnover of the country fetched US $730.7 million in financial year 2009, down 12.3% from the previous year.

Such drop was largely due to a strong reduction in the late months of 2009. In December, the export turnover suffered a reduction of 20.4% against previous month to touch $44.33 million.

US continued to be the biggest buyer of Vietnamese apparel accessories, although there was a slight slump. The export value reached $224 million, a drop of 5 percent year-on-year and accounting for 30.7 percent of total apparel accessories exports value.

Standing at second place, Germany bought totally $81.9 million worth of apparel accessories during the year, to grow by 6.1 percent over the previous year and accounted for 11.2% of the total accessories exports.

Belgium and Japan stood at the third and fourth place respectively at $68 million and $64.9 million. But both markets saw a yearly decrease of 3.6 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

The slump in exports turnover was noticeable in most of the other markets like, Thailand, Malaysia, and Poland etc. However, there was remarkable growth to destinations like Brazil, Switzerland and Spain.
