A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Ministry has been able to pin down the reasons for the frequent unrests in the ready-made garment factories in the country.

The culprit is none other than the fabric waste material generated by the garment manufacturing units, was the inference of the committee, who have recommended setting up of dump yards to dispose off the waste.

According to Isharafil Alam MP and Chairman of the committee, the waste is given off free of cost by the garment units to influential people. But the people, who are not able to lay their hands on the waste, are the ones who are creating the unrest.

Garment waste has turned in to a big business, due to the huge volumes churned out by the numerous manufacturing units in the country. It is mainly used for making pillows and mattress, the demand for which is on the rise in the country.

Mr Alam said that the committee has recommended the government to set up the dump yards, which the government has accepted and very shortly land will be allocated for setting up one dump yard at Ashulia and the other in Narayanganj.
