Regardless of the global economic meltdown, the Brandix group has succeeded in growing by 20 percent during previous year and has done well even during the initial two months of this year. Of the total production of Brandix Lanka, 30 percent is exported to EU, while 60 percent goes to USA.

Mr John Pillai, Director, Brandix Lanka, divulged that, they initiated a search for new marketplaces and as a part of the endeavour; they identified Japan as a potential good market. He added that, they have already started exporting goods to Japan.

The new plant in Punani in Batticaloa, functioning with 500 workers and 250 machine operators has successfully achieved the set target for this year, he said and added that, Rs 230 million were invested for Punani plant, being the expenditure towards setting up of infrastructure and other facilities.

He informed that, they exported 82,000 pieces from this factory to the markets and added that, in near future with the aid of fresh investments, they are considering to raise the production and to upgrade their machinery.

He further said that, at present the Brandix Group employs over 25,000 workers, but that the labour shortage prevailing in the area has posed a problem before them, but at the same time he was hopeful that, with further investments they will be able to overcome the problem in near future.

There is a cut throat competition but we have managed to survive the same with quality products and excellent capacity, he divulged.

According to him, the challenges remain the same even if the company branches out into other sectors like footwear. Brandix provides a complete package, as it has excellent backward integration facilities.

Thus, according to him, they need to consider centralization of their procedure, which would not only boost up the production but will even help in reducing the costs.
