Gamarra, a huge cluster of garment factories and textile businesses in Lima, has witnessed 20-25 percent growth in garment exports, during the first quarter of 2010, informed Pedro Manzur, President, Peru's Guild of Textile Entrepreneurs.
Demand for garment products has started mounting up, informed Mazur. Following an increase in demand from the US and European markets, garment products also witnessed increase in orders from other countries such as, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Chile, he added.
This year, the export of Peruvian garment items is anticipated to touch $1.8 billion, around 26 percent up against last year's export of $1.42 billion, which was also down by $604 million against $2.02 billion in 2008, said, Manzur.
