Papelbon to now endorse Under Armour

Jonathan Papelbon, the Boston pitcher, who earlier endorsed Astute Red Sox is no more associated with the brand and has instead signed up with Under Armour, for a multi-year endorsement deal. The pitcher is now seen moving about in company tailored cleats with “Cinco Ocho” tag.

A second version of cleats has also been created by Baltimore for Papelbon's second child, Gunner Robert.

Ryan Kuehl, Under Armour's Director of Professional Sports said that, they learned from a couple of people who serve professional athletes, regarding Papelbon's years of inclination towards endorsing the brand.

Also, getting closer to Red Sox's brand ambassador, Papelbon, along with its popularity and fan status was the best opportunity put forth before them to enter the market, said Kuehl.

Earlier this year, Papelbon's endorsement deal with Canton-based Reebok had come to an end. Thus now, the company sources said, he would be promoting Under Armour as it fits in his schedule.

According to Josh Rattet, Under Armour's Director of Cleated Footwear, the pitcher completely personifies the brand, with all his zeal and tenacity everything that he does on the mound.

Under Armour, which entered the cleat business in 2006 commenced its one and only Massachusetts store, two years ago.

Though the terms of the endorsement agreement were not publicized but the pitcher who now endorses the brand has been supplied with black, white and red UA Natural Low ST cleats for games back home, whereas, for international matches he has been provided with black, silver and navy blue cleats.
