Chicco sets up shop & to also source from India

Health and wellness product giant of Italy, 'Artsana SPA' with a turnover of Euro 1.4 billion will source apparel and shoes for 'Chicco', its baby care brand, from India for sales at international level.

The company has also established its first branded Chicco outlet in Delhi last week, and also plans to expand its retail presence in the country. It aims, to open 10 exclusive stores in India's metro and tier-I cities by the year 2011, and to get into departmental stores and pharmacy chains.

Market for baby care products in India is quite lucrative in the world, as 19 percent of the overall births in the world per year take place in this country, said a company official. After achieving success in European, US and South American markets, company looks India as its next frontier, he stated.

The company expects to attain heights within a couple of years with initiating sourcing from India as it is equipped with vast labour source and plenty of raw materials and textiles, which offer better opportunities for development.

The metro-cities of India such as Mumbai and Bangalore will witness the settting up of Chicco flagship stores. Moreover, the company will open more than hundred points of sales in the multi-branded format across the country, particularly in departmental and baby product stores as well as pharmacy.

Through these outlets and selling points, the company will launch its complete range of apparel, shoes, accessories and toiletries in the country by designing products as per consumers' choice and requirement.

At international level, Chicco products are sold in more than 70 countries and are available in thousands of multi-branded stores. There are around 170 exclusive outlets around the globe, operated by the company.
