The textile and clothing industry in Turkmenistan ranks second after the oil and natural gas sector. Many of the worlds leading brands like Levis and Ikea are outsourcing their manufacturing to the local companies of the country.

This was revealed at a “Turkmen Textiles” expo held on Sunday, which is also celebrated as a national day of textiles. According to the participants at the expo, denim jeans with 'Made in Turkmenistan' labels are gaining recognition in overseas markets.

The government has also invested heavily in the textile sector by setting up textile mills in each of the provinces and also is planning to set up cotton ginneries in the top cotton producing areas of the country in the next 2-3 years.
