The Cheer Squad and Cougarettes are an important part of BYU athletics, including sideline and halftime performances at football and basketball games.

“We always strive to present ourselves in a fashionable light while still remaining modest. DownEast is a fashion forward brand that shares these same values and is a perfect fit for the look and attitude the Cheer Squad and Cougarettes embrace,” said Jodi Maxfield, spirit coordinator for the BYU Cheer Squad as well as artistic director of the 2010 National Champion Cougarettes. “We are excited to have DownEast sponsor us, to wear their clothing and have them be a part of our exciting upcoming school year as we cheer on BYU's teams, participate in community events and perform competitively.”

DownEast, whose founders and corporate senior executives are all BYU alumni, also have family roots in the BYU Spirit Squad's heritage. DownEast CEO Klane Murphy's wife, Llilli Murphy, as well as his mother, Lawynn Murphy, are both former Cougarettes.

“The BYU Cougarettes program is always one of the top programs nationally and the Cheer Squad is also highly regarded. Both groups hold a strong level of brand recognition for their grace and talent,” said Murphy. “DownEast is proud to be associated with these teams as a fashion sponsor and we look forward to having them model our styles in the upcoming year.”

DownEast Basics, modest dresses, and smart layering pieces to enhance women's wardrobes, as well as a fun and stylish girls' line. DownEast Basics shoppers can embrace the American classic look with their own sense of style.
