A decision to bring non-grade workers into a grading system has been recently taken up by the members of minimum wage board that was formed to ensure garment workers' get their required monthly salary.

The board also decided to retain seven grades, instead of reducing the grades to five as proposed by the workers' representatives, a board member informed at board's 11th meeting.

Moreover, RMG workers' minimum monthly salary may be fixed at Tk 2,562.50, as per a member of the board. However, they have been asking for Tk 5,000 minimum monthly wage. Their current salary is Tk 1,662.5.

In addition to this, the board will also pay visit to few garment factories in Tongi, to examine the current situations over there, said a member. The board will formulate the final draft on July 26 and the government may reveal minimum salary structure by July 28.
