ThermaJock: cold weather protection for men

RunnerTek, LLC, a new start-up company based in Chicago, Illinois, will be launching ThermaJock in October of 2010. The product targets male endurance athletes who train or play sports in the winter months and are exposed to varying degrees of cold weather. The garment is of simple design made from Polartec Thermal Pro material. It's meant to slip on the penis, fastening in two places for a comfortable fit that stays in place even during the most rigorous activities.

Tom, a triathlete and long distance runner says - “I have worn the ThermaJock on all of my runs during the harsh Chicago winter and mile after mile it always provides the warmth I need without discomfort or chaffing.”

The idea for the garment came after co-founder, Christina Konstantelos, a Chicago Marathon finisher continued to hear from male runners how they would protect themselves with a sock during winter runs.

“The first time I didn't think much about it, but the second and third time, I thought maybe there was an unmet need in the marketplace. After further research I began finding documented cases of frostbite in temperatures of 25 degrees with maximum exposure of 30 minutes. At that point I was convinced we had a viable idea.”

Thermajock focuses on an area that has simply been overlooked in cold-weather protection gear. The primary market is the endurance athlete, but this product could benefit the construction worker, mailman, tailgater, or anyone who is exposed to dangerously cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
