In order to offer uniforms which are comfortable for women, the US Army has taken the much pending decision of testing its first-ever combat uniform specially designed for the female figure, with visibly slight but crucial changes. This effort of the US Army is intended to give comfort to around 160,000 US women soldiers.
The unisex army uniform of the US was quite loose. This opinion was held by most of the female soldiers who had to use the uniform for decades. With a view to neutralize gender differences, the US Army had offered standard-issue unisex unifrom. But, female soldiers were finding those uniforms uncomfortable and awkward.
These specially designed uniforms, which have undergone five years of study and design modification, will be comprehensively tested by some 600 women from January 2011. And these female battle garments would be rolled out as soon as 2012, after receiving an approval from the Army Uniform board.
