Deputy Prime Minister – Truong Vinh Trong will attend the award distribution ceremony today in Ha Noi where 84 outstanding enterprises from the textile, apparel, leather as well as footwear industries will be honored.
The Viet Nam Leather and Footwear Association (LEFASO), the Sai Gon Times and the Viet Nam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) will together organize the award distribution ceremony.
Of the 84 enterprises which are about to receive the awards, 64 belongs to the textile and apparel sector and the remaining 20 are from the footwear and leather industry. It is the seventh award ceremony for the textile and apparel industry and second for the footwear and the leather sector.
15 companies from the textile and apparel sector and five enterprises from the footwear as well as the leather sector are likely to receive top awards for their wide-ranging and remarkable performances.
Viet Tien Garment Joint Stock Co leads the lot from the apparel sector, whereas Viet Thang Textile Corporation occupies the top position among the selected textile firms. Thai Binh Investment and Footwear Production Corporation lead the leather and footwear industry.
For the last seven years, the top position has been held by Viet Tien Co and the earnings of the company is likely to touch VND120 billion (US $6 million) this year with a profit of 44 percent.
The textile and apparel industry, which is Vietnam's biggest earner of foreign currency, has already made a $9.2 billion export earnings, from the beginning of January to the end of October, this year.
The Government has fixed an export earning target of $18 billion by 2015 for textile and apparels, but VITAS intends to lift the target to $20 billion.
