Chinese fabric price rise, Indians source from new markets

As the Chinese textile producing industry is confronted with issues like that of scarce workforce and price rises, this has required the apparel exporters in India to consider other markets from where they can source fabrics.

Textile industry in China is facing many problems like labour scarcity, pay hike and rise in prices, which have adversely affected its shipment schedules.

China, to the detriment of those importing fabrics from the country, has been seen, raising fabrics prices, every month for last few months. Whereas, there has been a rise of over 30 to 40 percent in the prices of cotton, the prices of fabrics too have escalated by some 15 to 25 percent.

If China continues to hike the prices of its fabrics in such a pattern, Indian importers will have no other option but to reduce their imports from China and explore other countries like Philippines, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand for sourcing apparels and in that too, man-made fabric in particular.
