The State Minister for Labour and Employment, Monnujan Sufian, has warned that the government is likely to initiate action against those garment manufacturers who do not pay wages and other monetary benefits to their workers as per the new wage structure.

This month onwards, the RMG workers are going to get wages and other financial gains as per the new wage structure which came into effect since November 1, 2010.

The Minister revealed the information while speaking at a tripartite meeting with the government, worker's representatives, and garment manufacturers. The Minister attended this meeting organized by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its office as a chief guest.

She urged the garment workers not to pay attention to any rumours regarding the new wage structure and added that, its full-fledged implementation may take some time.

She suggested that the workers' leaders should bring any rumours regarding the new wage structure to the notice of BGMEA and discuss the same so as to avoid any further confusion.

The BGMEA President appealed the workers to report their annoyance over the issue of wages and other monetary benefits to the association, and also gave an assurance that the association would try to sort out these issues in consultation with the government representatives and garment manufacturers.
