OLYMP: from the idea to international brand in just 60 years

From 2001 onwards, the current Managing Director Mark Bezner has carried out a total relaunch of the OLYMP brand, which has led to the complete repositioning of the shirt specialist on the market and a significant increase in the brand image and appeal. Under his leadership, a future-oriented strategy in the fields of marketing, advertising and sales has been implemented and continuously increasing exports to more than 40 countries in Europe, the Far East and Asia have been able to be achieved. In China, which is experiencing rapid economic growth, the demand for the OLYMP brand has also been growing. However, it is not just the international market that has contributed to this success, as the national demand on the German market has also increased significantly.

Since the middle of the 1990's the product range has been consistently modified, developed in line with the market and extended in a target-oriented manner. In 1996, the non-iron and wrinkle-free "OLYMP Luxor“ shirt line made from pure cotton was introduced and, up until the present day, has been the driving force behind the growth in sales.

Today, in addition to high quality business shirts, OLYMP also produces an increasing quantity of leisure and polo shirts, as well as ties. The purchase of the Bavarian knitwear specialists MÄRZ AG in 2010 can be described as having been a logical business decision. In the meantime, MÄRZ GmbH & Co. KG, as it is now known, has become an independent company within the OLYMP group.

From autumn 2011, OLYMP's very first knitwear collection consisting of fashionable jumpers, slipovers, cardigans, etc. will be launched onto the market in order to drive forward the expansion of OLYMP as an integrated specialist in quality men's outerwear in the future. Due to the innovative and high quality design of the shirt collections, the company has also succeeded in winning an increasing number of younger customers and securing their long-term loyalty. Since moving into the new OLYMP headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen on the company's 50th anniversary in 2001, the administration, warehousing and logistics areas have already had to be significantly extended once more.

Most recently, the administration building and the extensive warehouse were enlarged to a total area of 18,000 square metres. Further extension work is planned for 2011/2012, in order to secure the integrated growth of the company for the future as well. In the highly efficient logistics centre, an average of approx. 800,000 items of business and leisure shirts, ties and polos is ready, today and at any time, for immediate delivery to the retail trade.

With the expansion of the company, an increasing number of highly qualified employment opportunities has been created in the modern clothing industry and with this additional jobs in the economic region of Stuttgart. In 2010 alone, the workforce grew by almost 50 employees to the current level of 450 employees in Germany. The current plans for 2011 also envisage a similar increase in the workforce and assume a national increase of up to 50 additional jobs in the areas of sales, retail, purchasing and logistics.
