RMG sector a good career option – Expert
Mar '11
Majority of the students face a problem in choosing a career path. They remain concerned about pursuing the right career.

A garment sector expert has urged them to pursue a career in the garment and textile sector, which would present them with better chances to turn entrepreneurs in future.

The expert said that, youngsters should build a career in the garments and textile sector, as here they stand a better chance to set up their own business, once they gain proficiency in the field.

Also, there are good prospects for pursuing a career in the sector, as the industry is all set to go touch the sky in coming five to seven years.

Many international firms are now hunting for alternative destinations to China where they can source garments from, and this is looked upon to benefit Bangladesh as it would be in the priority list due to the cost competitiveness that it offers. Thus, there would be great demand for skilled workforce coming up in the sector.

However, the expert stated that the country presently is facing severe dearth of personnel in middle level management positions like production managers, supervisors, floor in-charges and line operators, who could carry out the factory work efficiently.

But then, on a positive note, owing to the good prospects of the RMG sector, university graduates recently have taken up careers in the sector.

In view of all this, the expert urged the students to register for the undergraduate courses on garments and textiles, if they are interested in pursuing a career in the garment and textile sector.

He even advised the graduates to enrol for a diploma or short-term course or any other institute, as the sector is in need of personnel with formal as well as technical knowledge.
