China exported 6.35 million pieces of silk garments, worth US $16.46 million to Hong Kong. It registered an increase of 852.47 percent in quantity and 104.54 percent in value with average unit price of US $2.59 / piece, down 78.53 percent compared to last year.
In China's total exports of silk garments, exports to Hong Kong contributed 36.12 percent and 11.45 percent of export volume and value respectively.
Though silk clothing exports to Hong Kong sharply rose in volume, it significantly fell in price, mainly due to surge in exports of low-cost knitted underpants.
China exported 5.22 million pieces of women's knitted underpants to Hong Kong, a lion's share of 82.3 percent in China's total silk garment exports to Hong Kong.
As the average export price for women's knitted underpants was only US $0.53 / piece, it pulled down overall value of China's silk clothing exports to Hong Kong.
