Sri Lanka's Minister of Industry and Commerce has resolved to revive the regular Exporter's Forum, which helped the exporters to better voice their issues and earn a swift solution to the same.

The Export Development Board (EDB), a government organization which has been delegated with the task of helping the exporters, would conduct the Exporter's Forums.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen, while speaking at the annual general meeting of the Apparel Exporters Association of Sri Lanka on March 31, announced this decision to revive the forum.

The forum is considered to be a 'one-stop shop solutions mechanism' for fetching a solution to the issues of the exporters, and was held once, every two months. The meetings used to receive very good response with a number of exporters attending the same, prior to its temporary stagnation.

The meeting allowed the exporters to freely air their issues and discuss the same with concerned public sector institutional representatives and other allied agencies, and thereby etch speedy solutions to those issues.

Garment exports which in 1978, meagrely contributed three percent to the country's overall export earnings, have now turned to be the key sector contributing around 42 percent of the country's total export earnings.
