Studies indicate that atopic dermatitis imposes a significant financial burden as well, with total costs estimated at Cdn $1.4 billion annually. A recent Canadian review2 cited that more than half of patients with atopic dermatitis experience sleep disturbances owing to their condition and 71% have reported concerns about topical corticosteroid use. The study concluded that the total cost to society is large and that most of the cost is borne by patients and their employers. A drug free solution such as DermaSilk is a breakthrough that is long overdue.

The worst and most difficult elements to control are the itching and scratching which leads to weeping and bleeding skin resulting in discomfort, sleepless nights and possible infections. Until now there have been few dressing options that can alleviate this condition. Cost benefit analysis of DermaSilk has been shown to greatly reduce the medication costs to patients and the health care system from 75% with mild to moderate sufferers to a whopping 596% for severe patients. In recognition of this cost savings, health authorities in Europe and the UK now include DermaSilk in the list of prescribed items covered by National Health Services.

Clinical Trials

In published clinical trials3,4,5, the patented DermaSilk system has been proven to rapidly and significantly outperform cotton clothing in contributing to the reduction of irritation, itching and scratching associated with compromising skin conditions such atopic dermatitis, while enhancing the activity of conventional medication4. This ultimately enables patients to increase comfort, heal faster, sleep better and reduce their use of topical antibiotics and steroids.

Dr. Rupert Mason, medical advisor to DermSilk in the UK, said: "Eczema can be one of the most distressing conditions that children can suffer and it torments them in many ways. The introduction of the DermaSilk clothing range has many benefits not only for its therapeutic value but also in its design and construction, as the range looks very normal, reducing the self-conscious element children feel in front of their peer group."

DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing is available for all age groups and for any part of the body. It is used for eczema and a growing list of other skin disorders, including acne, burn care, diabetic ulcers, lichen sclerosis, thrush, and Epidermolysis bullosa. The DermaSilk range includes undershirts, pants, baby suits, gloves, underwear and leggings.
