A Royal opening for Speedo House

Speedo House, the new global headquarters of the world's leading swimwear brand, Speedo, has been officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in a ceremony at the building in Nottingham in the UK.

Princess Anne was taken on a guided tour of Speedo House by Speedo President, David Robinson, and was able to discover more about the corporate responsibility initiatives being implemented by the company before visiting the design team where she was given an insight into the highly technical process of designing and producing market leading swimwear innovations. Her Royal Highness was also granted privileged access to the top-secret Speedo Aqualab global research and development facility during the tour.

Acting as the brand's international base for visiting partners and Speedo sponsored athletes, Speedo House boasts 35,000 square feet set over three floors, with the spacious offices offering a much improved environment for Speedo's top-secret global Aqualab research and development centre, with a new design studio and development workshop leaving Speedo well placed to enhance its reputation as innovators in swimwear and equipment.

Featuring a full height glass atrium foyer and a striking zinc clad wall bearing the Speedo logo, the build design incorporates the latest environmental features. These include optimised use of natural light through solar control glazed windows; intelligent lighting with movement and daylight sensors; energy saving air source heat pump technology and borehole water for grey water systems.

Meanwhile the building's futuristic state-of-the-art interior design fuses transparency, opacity, and intelligent use of colour and natural light to create a modern, vibrant and inspiring working environment for the 170-strong Speedo workforce.
