HanesBrands and its employees have received the decade of excellence award from the United Way of Forsyth County, N.C., for record donations over the past 10 years and a commitment to community volunteerism.
Hanes and its employees have been the largest corporate contributor to the United Way chapter, donating more than $23 million in the decade to support community agencies and programs. In four of the past five years, the company's employees have won United Way of North Carolina Spirit awards for campaign excellence.
“Leadership is critical to achieving philanthropic goals, and it's found throughout the HanesBrands organization,” said Brenda Diggs, a board member of the United Way of North Carolina and United Way of Forsyth County. “The HanesBrands culture and leadership has produced remarkable campaigns.”
Last year, 80 percent of the HanesBrands employees who donated to the United Way campaign gave at the leadership level ($1,000 or more) and the company had 30 Tocqueville Leadership Society members (those giving $10,000 or more), the most of any corporate giver in Forsyth County.
“HanesBrands' support of the United Way is part of our worldwide commitment to being a socially responsible business leader,” said Kevin W. Oliver, HanesBrands' chief human resources officer and board member of the United Way of Forsyth County. “We are proud of our employees' generosity in donating time and money for the betterment of their community.”
In Winston-Salem, hundreds of HanesBrands employees also use paid time off to participate in the company's Days of Caring volunteer projects throughout the year at United Way agencies, schools and other community groups. The company conducts a Day of Caring outreach to kick off each year's United Way fundraising campaign.
