Get UV protection with honeysuckle extract coated clothing

Ren-Cheng Tang and Sha-Sha Sun, two scientists from China's Soochow University, have claimed that an extract of the honeysuckle plant could act as a protecting agent against sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiations.

According to them, the substance can be used as a natural covering over the clothes, as nowadays people are increasingly demanding clothes which could save them from harmful UV rays.

The duo carried their experiment further to find out whether the substance provided same level of protection when applied as a coat on woollen garments. When met with positive results, they concluded that the plant extract itself worked as a natural UV-protecting agent.

These scientists claim that the people who are well aware of detrimental effects due to exposure to UV rays like skin cancer and premature aging, can adapt to use of clothing prepared with the honeysuckle extract.

Facts regarding this research have been published in American Chemical Society's journal 'Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research'.

The researchers, while quoting that China's conventional therapists have used honeysuckle to treat colds and fevers for ages, said that the natural UV-resistant coatings could prove beneficial in many ways and can even prove helpful in developing a more sustainable range of fashion clothing that has lesser impact on the environment.
