Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) president Dr A Sakthivel has thanked Tamil Nadu chief minister Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for announcing the formation of the State Textile Consultative Committee headed by the Textile Minister. The State Textile Consultative Committee had been a long standing demand of the TEA. The committee would help for the growth of the whole textile industry including apparel and also help to address the textile related issues, Dr Sakthivel said in a statement.

TEA also thanked the Chief Minister for extension of State Government financial support up to 25 per cent in project estimates under the scheme for integrated textile processing development of the centre, which is the major requirement for the improvement made in the processing sector, the weakest link in the textile value chain. The statement pointed out that the Tirupur garment industry growth has returned to normalcy only after Jayalaithaa's announcement of Rs.200 Crore interest free loan offered to the Tirupur CETPs immediately after assuming office.

The TEA chief said that in the garment sector, more than 80 per cent of units are under SMEs categories and an announcement by the Chief Minister on unveiling of new MSME policy would pave way for the growth of garment sector in Tamil Nadu including garment exports. (SH)
