During a press conference, ABIT director-superintendent Fernando Pimentel said the sector is going through a difficult time but that we must invest and show the talent of the professionals and artisans who are transforming Brazilian fashion into something desired around the world.

“Just for comparison purposes, in India, 15% of all looms are manual, which proves that the product potential for artisanal products is very strong,” said Pimentel.

Since it began in 2002, Fashion Rio has leveraged the textile industry in Rio de Janeiro. According to Firjan president, Eduardo Eugênio Gouveia Vieira, “Rio de Janeiro textile exports grew 58% over this period and generated many jobs. In the apparel centers alone, which gather more than 4 thousand small and mid-sized companies, the sector employs 92 thousand people.”
