Belgium : ITGLWF welcomes adidas Transparency

Adidas’s decision to make its Global Supplier List available to the public has been welcomed by the global union in the sector, the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers’ Federation.
Following the takeover of Reebok by adidas and the integration of the adidas and Reebok social compliance programmes, adidas had pledged to finalise their Group-wide compliance data management system, the Fair Factory Clearinghouse (FFC) and achieve greater supply chain transparency.
adidas have now posted a Global Supplier List on their website which includes all suppliers manufacturing sporting goods for the adidas Group globally. The list excludes, for the time being, suppliers manufacturing for adidas licensees.
“adidas have joined a growing list of clothing and shoe brands which recognize that supply chains transparency is an essential ingredient in corporate social accountability”, ITGLWF General Secretary, Neil Kearney said.
“Hopefully, they will soon be in a position to go all the way and provide details of factories supplying their licensees. The rest of the industry now needs quickly to follow the trend started by Nike, another sporting goods brand, a couple of years ago and release full details of their chains of suppliers.
