The COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has now also settled its 2014 wage negotiations in the canvas sector for the Witwatersrand area. It is a two year agreement.

The settlement package is a wage increase of 7.5% during the first year (1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015). For the second year of the agreement (1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016), the package increase will be 7.5% on wages.

Approximately 900 workers in about 30 factories, nationally, will benefit from this increase.

The agreement was reached under the auspices of the Bargaining Council for the Canvas Goods Industry (Witwatersrand & Pretoria), between SACTWU and the Canvas Employers Organisation (CEO).

The agreement will be submitted to the Minister of Labour, to be extended to all ‘non-party’ companies covered by the geographic scope of the Canvas Bargaining Council (Wits and Pretoria).The Agreement is expected to be signed early next week. The increases will be backdated 1 July 2014.
