Atelier GARDEUR reveals Germans' trouser secrets

The 1st German Trouser Study proves that for many end consumers the path to finding the right pair of trousers is a stony one. Over 50% of men try on more than four pairs before finding one that fits. And women try on as many as four to six pairs before they find their favourite pair.

This marathon also continues at numerous shops online: three-quarters of Germans visit two to three stores in search of trousers with a perfect fit. “We have found out that trousers are the hardest item of clothing to shop for,” says Gerhard Kränzle, CEO and majority shareholder at GARDEUR GmbH and commissioner of the representative survey.

By far the greatest stumbling block encountered by German end consumers when trouser shopping is the lacking fit of many trousers (37%). When trouser shopping, men are more likely to listen to the advice of their partners (63%) while women decide based on their own judgment (56%).

Commissioned by Atelier GARDEUR market research firm K&A BrandResearch AG in collaboration with respondi AG polled 1,000 Germans aged 25 to 60 in a representative online survey on the topic of trousers.
